Having cracked the music scene in her native Reykjavik, she's set to storm the UK charts. Labelled by i-D magazine as Iceland’s answer to Dua Lipa, meet Glowie, the singer, model and dancer you just gotta get to know.
You're only 20, young to have been signed by Colombia Records. Is singing something you've always what you wanted to do? What age did you start singing?
Music has always been a big part of my life... I started properly practicing when I was 10 years old. My favourite moments are when I perform in front of a crowd, I feel free. It would be really cool to be able to do that for a living, that has always been my goal.
"I think because [ICELAND IS] such a small country we compare ourselves to one another. If you´re different you get a lot of attention."
You’re originally from Iceland, how different was it growing up in Iceland compared to where you’re at now?
Iceland is very small and safe but it can get really cold, dark and windy in the winter. Once when I was maybe 7 or 8 years old, I was with my friend and we were gonna go to her place after school and when we went out the ground was covered ice so it was really slippery and super windy so we couldn't walk without falling over all the time. We ended up crawling to her house!
I think because we're such a small country we compare ourselves to one another, especially kids and teenagers. If you're different you get a lot of attention. I may be exaggerating a little but people in Iceland can be very honest and have cold attitude. We look very serious all the time haha...
Do you still spend a lot of time in Iceland or are you based somewhere else in the world now? How do you find all the travelling back and forth?
I still live in Iceland so I travel a lot back and forth which can be exhausting but I get used to it. I´m planning on moving to London soon. I love spending time with my family in Iceland so it doesn’t matter where I live in the future, Iceland will always be my home.
You released your first single in 2015 and only 2 years later, you’ve already been signed by Colombia Records which is a pretty big deal and one of the biggest from an Icelandic artist. How did you feel when you got the news that you’d be signed?
Yeah this is just crazy. I remember being very confused for weeks I had no idea what was happening. This is definitely a dream come true.
"I don´t think too much when it comes to my style, I let it come naturally and it's constantly changing."
How would you describe your style?
I don´t think too much when it comes to my style, I let it come naturally and it's constantly changing.
How do you feel about the looks in #HOHLife?
HOH clothes fit me really well, I love retro logos and mottos on clothes and I like to wear colourful stuff!
